Instructors

Marie Distasio: owner

"In life, you are given one body; never forget that. Love it, challenge it, and push past your limits."

Marie is a BASI Certified Pilates Instructor, she has been teaching Pilates for 10 years. Marie first found Pilates while training for a half marathon. After becoming injured during training, a physical therapist recommended including Pilates throughout her training to help correct some of the imbalances she was experiencing. Once she gave it a try she was hooked! Marie loves the way Pilates compliments fitness and creates a body awareness and strength that no other form of exercise does. In addition to being a Pilates instructor, she has experience as a Personal Trainer, cycling instructor and certified TRX instructor. Marie believes in focusing on more than just one type of exercise and likes to keep her clients guessing by providing experiences that are challenging, different and most importantly, fun.

rachel kagan: instructor

Rachel was first introduced to Pilates in 2018 she soon found herself returning to the reformer week after week, loving the way it made her feel. She started attending group classes at ab&flow in early 2019 and has been a regular client ever since. Rachel was interested in deepening her personal practice and decided to go through the teacher training program at ab&flow. Throughout the program, Rachel fell in love with the actual teaching and realized how much she enjoyed being able to share her love of Pilates with others.

Rachel aims for her clients to love their bodies in safe, creative and challenging ways. She hopes that each one of her clients leaves feeling stronger and more confident than when they came in.

Teri-Ann Marchigiani: instructor

“Change happens through movement and movement heals”

Teri-Ann first found Pilates in 2015 after playing collegiate soccer and shortly after her first OCB bikini show, she was looking for something different to help her posture alignment and work through lower back pain. She fell in love with the practice after it helped her discover how to fully engage her core throughout workouts and everyday life. After consistent practice week over week she could feel how much more aligned her body felt and suddenly started to convince everyone around her to practice! In 2019 she decided to finally jump into teacher training and explore her passion.

Teri-Ann has a bachelor’s in communications from Holy Cross College of Notre Dame, she currently works in product development for beauty CPG and has decided to explore her love for Pilates teaching here at ab&flow. She hopes to teach her students how to feel best in their body, appreciate their body and how important both a strong core and spine is to their everyday life. As Joseph Pilates said “a man is as young as his spinal column”.

When she is not working or teaching you can find her visiting dog parks with her dog, Gizmo. Hanging out with friends and family, and trying to find the best new restaurant in town.

Kaia Becker: iNSTRUCTOR

“The hard way is always the enduring way.” - Dr. George Becker Jr.

Kaia was first introduced to Pilates while at college, being a Division I collegiate Pole Vaulter, she has dealt with many injuries, including breaking her back twice. Kaia discovered the many benefits of doing Pilates, including how it strengthened and lengthened all of her muscles, to both better her physically and to prevent further, or new, injuries.

After Kaia graduated from the University of Vermont with a Bachelors Degree in Early American History and a minor in Special Topics in Healthcare and Medicine, she moved to South Carolina to discover her passion. Kaia started to use Pilates as cross training for surfing, and rediscovered her passion for Pilates. Wanting to share her love of Pilates with others and advance her own knowledge, she enrolled in the Ab & Flow Pilates Training Program. During the course of the program, Kaia intensified her love of Pilates and for teaching. She is excited to share her knowledge of Pilates with all of her clients! Kaia wants to leave her clients feeling stronger, happier, and more confident in their abilities.

Cathy manas: instructor

Cathy began her fitness instructing journey as a Barre instructor in 2016. She immediately fell in love with teaching and learning about strengthening the mind and body through movement. Cathy later went on to discover Pilates in 2018, and started to incorporate Pilates into her personal practice. She currently works as a recovery nurse in a sports orthopedic surgery center. Cathy has cared for many patients with all types of injuries and ailments. She wanted to combine her passion for healing and her knowledge of movement under one roof. This led her to pursue her Pilates certification at Ab & Flow. The more she learned about Pilates, the more she realized that Pilates was more than just an exercise but a form of healing and rehabilitation. She knows that this could benefit her clients in hopes that they don’t become her patients.

Her intention as an instructor is to help her clients feel in alignment with their bodies and their minds. Cathy is also certified in yoga and meditation. She believes that in order to transform the body, we first need to start within.
