Teacher Training Program

The ab&flow training program was created by Marie who took her 14 years of teaching experience and background in fitness to emphasize the functionality of Pilates. For too long we have heard Pilates is only for dancers or rehabilitation—when in reality—Pilates is for everyone. It is a wonderful well-rounded form of exercise that will help people do what they really love, and do it better…whether a runner, golfer, swimmer, dancer, busy mom/dad running after your kids, or someone who is looking to support a healthy lifestyle. With this in, this training program takes a functional approach in its teaching. We still maintain the core principles of Pilates and movement but we have an emphasis on how to adapt it to our clients and make it more accessible, learning how to relate it to everyday life.

About:

Our training program is a 500-hour course, divided into 6 modules (history/anatomy, mat, reformer, cadillac, Chair, Barrel/Spine Corrector). Throughout each module, students will learn how to incorporate props, such as, magic circle, balls, weights, etc. as well as working with special populations and class programming. Our training program is taught through lecture, practice, teaching and observation. This program also takes students through anatomy and movements such as planes of motion, concentric and eccentric as it pertains to the body and to Pilates specifically. To be eligible for the course, students must be 18 years or older and have a high school diploma. Upon completion of the course, students should feel equipped with enough knowledge to teach a pilates class in a group or one-on-one setting.

  • 500 Comprehensive Pilates Certification Program

  • 6 modules covered over 3 months of classroom

  • Studio access for self practice and teacher training hours

  • Mentorship throughout the program and beyond

  • New Training begins February of 2025 at our Chicago location

I started going to classes here and fell in love with the space & its instructors! I then took the Teacher Training Course with Marie (the Owner) and could not recommend it enough. Teacher Training can be intimidating but Marie was welcoming right from the start! I found it to be the perfect balance of technical pilates information, along with very practical tips on how to plan and teach classes of varying levels. Marie consistently provided helpful feedback and was encouraging every step of the way, really getting to know you and your goals. As someone who has started to teach classes, the books Marie provided in the course have been extremely helpful as they include not only the movements, but also suggested cues and other helpful tips/guidance. Teacher Training is a big time and financial commitment, so it is important to find the right fit for you and your style of teaching. For me, Marie and ab&flow were a perfect fit! HUGE bonus was the awesome group of people who also went through the Teacher Training Course with me! If you are looking for a place to start your Pilates teaching career, or just gain a deeper understanding of your own Pilates practice - ab&flow is a great place to start!

The ab&flow teach training program offered me the comprehensive, hands on instruction that I needed to start my journey as a pilates instructor. Marie is a wealth of knowledge and her program offered the perfect balance of structure and flexibility to allow me to complete my coursework while still working a full time job. I would highly recommend the ab&flow teach training program!

It’s been great learning from Marie. She has been very encouraging and supportive through out the training. Materials were well written and in-studio immersion hours were very informative. Marie also gives a great option to teach an apprentice class, which for me personally turned out to be a valuable “real life” experience.
On top of everything else, ab&flow (Chicago ) is just an absolutely beautiful studio, pleasure to practice and teach at.

New Year, New Skills!

We have an exciting partnership for this month’s workshop! Despite the Dark and BKSTRENGTH.

Despite the Dark’s goal is to start a conversation about safety at night, specifically when you are running. They believe there is a safety in numbers, which is why they are creating safe places for people to run with their Despite the Dark monthly runs.

Unfortunately, nobody cannot prevent every dangerous situation, so they want to prepare everyone. Thus, we have teamed to provide a free self-defense class with trainer Brian Kent of BKSTRENGTH.
